IFC’s Lighting Asia/India program is aimed at increasing access to clean, affordable energy in rural India by promoting modern off-grid lighting products, and systems. The objective of the program is to continue to accelerate the development markets for quality off-grid solar solutions) and achieve deeper penetration of these solutions among last mile market segments in rural India. It supports the development of the value chain that covers commercial supply and demand opportunities of these systems, i.e., manufacturing, distribution, supply chain management and finance. The program works with the private sector to remove market entry barriers, provide market intelligence, foster B2B/market linkages, market for quality solar appliances through a multi-faceted approach: working with manufacturers to test their products, supporting distributors to penetrate untapped markets, and raise consumer awareness on modern lighting options. Over the next 3 years, the program will focus its efforts in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Assam.
